LARGO - Eight O'Clock Theatre presents "Lend Me a Tenor" on May 2-4, May 8-11, at Largo Cultural Center's Tonne Playhouse, 105 Central Park Drive.
Performance times are Thursday through Saturday, 8 p.m. with Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $21; $19 for groups of 10 or more; $16 for students age 19 and under. For tickets or more information, call the box office at 727-587-6793 or visit www.eightoclocktheatre.us.
One of the funniest comedies to brighten the stage in many years, Ken Ludwig’s "Lend Me A Tenor," will be presented by a cast of seasoned actors: James Grenelle, Gary L. Smith, Ronnie Farley, Trey Ryan, Lauren Clark and Katy Gaudet, are joined by two talented newcomers to Eight O'Clock Theatre, Jordan Loring and Cengiz Dokumaci, and, with director Judy Becotte and stage managers Betsy Byrd and Janet Tucker, are laughing their way through rehearsals. It’s that kind of play.
Chaos reigns offstage and on in this Tony Award-winning backstage farce. The Cleveland Grand Opera Company has imported the world-famous tenor Tito Merelli to launch its season with a performance of Verdi’s Otello, only to discover their special attraction has passed out cold in his dressing room from taking too many tranquilizers.
The company manager scrambles to make sure the show, as always, goes on. Who will perform? Will the audience notice? This crowd-pleasing comedy fills the theatre with mistaken identities, romantic intrigue, a cascade of slamming doors, and enough laughter to have you “singing” its praises for weeks to come.
Winner of three Tony Awards, as well as four Drama Desk and Five Critic’s Outer Circle Awards, this is a comedy for everyone.
