ST. PETERSBURG – freeFall Theatre’s upcoming production of The Burnt Part Boys runs June 14 through July 6.

The Burnt Part Boys takes the audience out of St. Petersburg, Florida and deep into West Virginia’s coal mines, following the very human experience of 14-year-old Pete, his brother Jake and their friends.

As these daring young people journey into the coal mine known as “the burnt part”, the same mine that took their fathers’ lives, audiences are challenged to experience and perceive the streaks of light and the depths of the darkness that lie in each of us. By turns magical, inspiring, raucous, and playful it is a coming-of-age tale in the finest vein of the genre that people from all walks of life can relate to.

Eric Davis directs The Burnt Part Boys with musical direction by Michael Raabe. This production stars Katie Berger, Nick Fitzer, Joseph Flynn, Cameron Kubly, Nick Lerew, Daniel Schwab, Jim Sorensen, Patrick Ryan Sullivan and Chris Vaughn.

Composer Chris Miller and lyricist Nathan Tysen along with librettist, Mariana Elder, created this empowering and thrilling theatrical experience for young and old alike that the New York Times said recalls “the exploits of Mark Twain’s beloved roughhousers, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.” The Burnt Part Boys is the winner of the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award (2009) and nominated for the Lucille Lortel for Best Musical (2010).

Russell Buchan also sponsors the show.

Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Adult ticket prices range from $29 to $44. Group rates are available by calling Matthew McGee at 727-498-5205, ext. 7. For regular ticket purchases or more information, visit www.freefalltheatre.com or call 727-498-5205.
