TARPON SPRING - Constantine Grame performs his score to accompany the silent film "The Magic Cloak of Oz" on Saturday, July 19, 7:30 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, 101 South Pinellas Ave.
Tickets are $12, $10 (members). Call the Box Office 727-942-5605 or order online at tarponarts.org.
Constantine Grame was a featured guest at the Ozmopolitan Convention (the annual convention of the International Wizard of Oz Club) in Naperville, Ill., June 6-8. He performs his score to accompany the silent film "The Magic Cloak of Oz" (filmed by Oz author L. Frank Baum in 1914), which will be shown in a unique print with a running time 20 minutes longer than other surviving copies.
Grame also will discuss the 1902 stage musical adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz," performed at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center under his direction. This production, together with an earlier one in Tarpon Springs (1998) constitute the only stagings of this work since 1920.
