TARPON SPRINGS - The New Century Opera will perform "The Magic Flute" on Friday, Sept. 16, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18, 2 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center.
Directed by Marilyn Michael Evans, this production of "The Magic Flute" revives one of Mozart's most popular operas. It begins with the Queen of the Night, a sorrow-riven mother, telling young Prince Tamino that her only child, Pamina, has been abducted by the magic of an evil sorcerer, Sarastro. Tamino embarks on a noble mission to rescue Pamina, but he soon encounters a wise old oracle who tells him he has been deceived. It seems that Sarastro is pure and virtuous, and the Queen of the Night is a power-hungry shrew whose motive is to rule the universe. The battle lines are now clear, and a classic struggle between good and evil ensues.
Tickets are $13, $11 for center members and students. Call 942-5605.
The Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center is at 324 East Pine St.
