CLEARWATER - Thar she blows! Countryside High School Drama and Thespian Troupe 900 is presenting Moby Dick! The Musical. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 9 to 11, at Countryside High School.
A cult favorite in London in the 1990's, "Moby Dick! The Musical" has been re-conceived for an American audience. As it opens, the girls of St. Godley's School are in trouble. Money for the school has run out and the place will have to close.
Leave it to these resourceful girls and their unflappable headmistress (played by a man) to come up with a plan to keep the school afloat. Using whatever they can find at hand, the girls mount an original production; a musical version of Moby Dick, featuring their headmistress in the coveted role of Captain Ahab.
The show by Robert Longden and Hereward Kaye was inspired, in tone, by the 1954 British movie, "The Belles of St. Trinians," about the hijinks at a boarding school that is going broke. Alastair Sim played the headmistress in the picture.
The show begins at 7 p.m. each night with an added Matinee on Friday at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to performance times. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
Countryside High School auditorium is at State Road 580 and McMullen Booth Road (entrance on State Road 580).
