ST. PETE BEACH Ė The city of St. Pete Beach is offering a series of classes in February and March that lead to certification as a lifeguard.
Participants must be 15 years or older and must complete a pre-test in order to continue in the class. The pre-test consists of treading water for two minutes using legs only, swimming 300 yards without stopping and a surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom.
The cost is $160 for city residents and $180 for nonresidents.
Registration begins Feb. 2. Session one class dates are Feb. 15, 16, 22 and 23. Session two dates are March 15, 16, 22 and 23 with session three set March 24-28.
