Sunken Gardens offers gardening program

ST. PETERSBURG – Sunken Gardens will offer Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Bromeliads in a Half-hour on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Sunken Gardens is at 1825 Fourth St. N. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors (55 and up) and $4 children under 11. Call 551-3148.

Dave Johnston, bromeliad enthusiast and member of Florida’s West Coast Bromeliad Society, will present tips on how to grow a wide variety of terrestrial and epiphytic bromeliads. Johnston owns one of the world’s largest private collections of bromeliads and will display an array of plants from the nearly 2,000 species and hybrids in his collection.

This presentation will appeal to the novice gardener as well as the advanced horticulturist. A question and answer period will follow the presentation, and an assortment of bromeliads will be available for sale. This presentation is free with paid Sunken Gardens admission.
