PALM HARBOR - Discover the beauty of the hibiscus with Pinellas County Extension Master Gardener Dick Davis at the Palm Harbor Library, 2330 Nebraska Ave., on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at either 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Citizens will learn the history of the hibiscus, how to best care for them and how to propagate as well as hybridize hibiscus. They will also explore some of the many varieties of hibiscus. This plant will delight every gardener for a variety of reasons. It offers a summer-long flower show, large blooms in brilliant colors, hardiness, adaptability in a variety of soil and quick growth.

Admission is free, but space is limited. Citizens can register online at www.pinellascountyextension.org with a click on the “Online Class Registration” button or call 727-582-2100.

This Hibiscus Program is the second program of the 2009 Pinellas County Extension Master Gardener Garden Series.

Palm Harbor Library is the home for the new Pinellas County Extension Master Gardener Plant Clinic on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Master Gardeners offer diagnostic services that include soil testing along with information about identifying plants, treatment for insects and ideas for Florida-friendly landscaping.

Please note that water tests still need to be delivered to the Largo Extension office, and no live animals should be brought into the clinic for identification. The north county location is convenient for residents unable to travel to Pinellas County Extension in Largo.

The Pinellas County Extension Master Gardener Program is provided through the University of Florida/IFAS/Pinellas County Extension in Largo. These volunteer Master Gardeners help with tending the landscapes at Florida Botanical Gardens in addition to providing educational programs on environmentally sound Florida-friendly landscape practices to Pinellas County citizens. These volunteers also provide support to 4-H and other youth programs.

Find out more about Pinellas County Extension, its programs and events by calling 727-582-2100 or by visiting www.pinellascountyextension.org.
