LARGO – The city of Largo offers three programs to help promote children’s nutrition, wellness and activity at Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave.
The programs are jam-packed with physical activity, education about healthy habits and participation that reinforce and apply the fundamentals of team sports.
Go Girl Sports, for ages 6 to 10, takes place on Wednesdays, 5:45 p.m. and introduces girls to sports – including basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer and more – in a social setting through skill instruction and other activities.
Basketball Basics, for ages 6 to 8, is on Saturdays, 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., and applies the fundamentals of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and team play. Drills, skills, and informal mini-scrimmages are played with instruction as needed.
Youth Track and Field, for ages 5 to 18, is a program where kids will team up to run against friends and rivals from other local cities. This program is on Wednesdays, 6 p.m., and includes three practices at Largo High School and one track meet per month at an off-site location.
