Philippe to host nature walk
SAFETY HARBOR – A guided nature walk will be offered Saturday, Feb. 16 and March 16, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Philippe Park, 2525 Philippe Parkway. The hike is limited to 12 participants. Attendees will learn park history while exploring nature. Participants should meet at the Philippe gravesite at 9 a.m. Closed-toe shoes, water, sunscreen a hat and insect repellant are recommended. Participants will have an opportunity to look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Weedon to celebrate 10th anniversary
ST. PETERSBURG – A 10th anniversary celebration will be presented Saturday, Feb. 16, 9 to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE. The event will feature commemorative speakers, special guided hikes, arts and crafts, video presentations and an indoor scavenger hunt. Light refreshments and cake will be served at noon. Guided hikes will begin at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and will include a Native American hike, a coastal ecology hike and a family hike. Arts and crafts, including fish printing and Play-Doh pottery will be offered in the classroom. Bring a plain T-shirt or reusable bag to make a commemorative fish print. All ages are welcome.
