The Clearwater Yacht Club is hosting 200 sailors, coaches and judges through Sunday, Feb. 24, for the 2013 Laser Mid-Winters East Regatta, which began on Feb. 21. This is the 13th consecutive year that this important international-level competition has been hosted by the club and held on local waters.
Sailors will be divided into five fleets of up to 50 boats per fleet and sail a trapezoid-shaped course. The competition area will be about a mile north of Clearwater Pass and one mile west of Clearwater Beach. The regatta will be visible from Pier 60.
Lasers are single-crew, 15-foot single sailboats, and there are three categories for the rigs, meaning the sail size, which are full rig, laser radials and 4.7s.
