LARGO – Largo’s McGough Nature Park, AT 11901 146th St. N., offers two live bird showings each week, on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and Saturdays at noon.
Join McGough’s park rangers as they showcase one of the birds in the nature center. Guests can ask questions, learn cool facts, and have the unique opportunity to observe these beautiful birds of prey up close.
The McGough Nature Park is home to four owls and one red-shouldered hawk. Each bird is classified as non-releasable, having permanent injuries that prevent survival in the wild. Care for the birds is provided by the park staff and volunteers. The Clearwater Audubon Society and Progress Energy have partnered with the park to help cover the feeding and husbandry costs associated with keeping the birds in captivity. Veterinary care is provided free of charge by the veterinary staff at Busch Gardens in Tampa.
The birds may be seen daily at McGough Nature Park from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Personalized donations to sponsor the birds can be made at the nature center with the money going towards the animal’s feeding and care.
