Seminole Stampede SEMINOLE – The Seminole Stampede 5K and 1-mile run will be held Saturday, March 22, 8 a.m., at Walsingham Park, 12615 102nd Ave. Cost to register is $20 per individual for the 5K and $10 for the 1-mile run. After March 20, the price increases by $5 for each run.
This is the 21st year of the Seminole Stampede, which originated as a way to commemorate the grand opening of the 102nd Avenue Bridge. The following year, the Stampede was moved to Walsingham Park for its opening. The Stampede trail, which runs along the lake and through the park, has been certified and a professional chip timer is on the scene to ensure accuracy of the winners at the event.
Sponsors and volunteers also are being sought for the event. Youth triathlon club meeting SEMINOLE – The Seminole Landsharks Youth Triathlon Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:15 p.m., in April and May, and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. June through August. The club meets at the Holland G. Mangum Recreational Complex, 9100 113th St. N. This program is for boys and girls, ages 8 through 15, interested in training, participating, and learning more about the sport of triathlon.
The Seminole Landsharks provide an opportunity to stay healthy, meet new friends, and participate in three to four triathlons during the summer. Training will involve swim skills improvement, running for speed and endurance, and biking skills for beginners, novice and experienced athletes. In addition, special activities will include nutrition for youth athletes, and triathlon specific event skills. Participants must be able to swim freestyle for two lengths of the pool or 50 yards without stopping.

Children’s martial arts program SEMINOLE – The Holland G. Mangum Recreational Complex, 9100 113th St. N., offers a martial arts program for children ages 5 through 12 on Mondays, 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Master Ryan Dean, a 7th degree black belt Okinawan instructor who teaches at the Dojo Academy in Largo, leads classes.
