INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – Despite the lack of any significant shore break, Cory Lopez’s inaugural Nekton Surf Shop Spring Break Yo Self Pro/Am Skim Contest enjoyed a large turnout.
Given that the Gulf shore break was inconsistent and small, the event promoters enlisted the help of a large fishing boat to cruise up and down the beach and create up to a 1-foot wake, until the Coast Guard put a stop to that.
Still the riders all made the best of the minimal conditions and put on a great show of tricks and aerial wizardry for the crowd to enjoy.
The event was sponsored by O’Neill, Anarchy Eyewear, Monster Energy, Freestyle, Hatfield, Gulfster.com, Humit, and the local YMCA. Nekton fed the hungry throngs after the event with a massive blow-out BBQ at the Nekton parking lot.
