Article published on Thursday, April 12, 2007
CLEARWATER – The No. 2 state-ranked St. Petersburg College baseball team lost to Polk Community College 7-5 Saturday, but still maintains a four-game lead in the Suncoast Conference.

SPC is 13-3 in the conference and 30-10 overall entering this week’s games. Manatee CC, Polk CC and Hillsborough CC all have seven losses and are tied for second.

The Titans are at home Friday night against always tough Manatee. They return home Monday to take on Pasco-Hernando CC and are home Friday April 13 against Hillsborough CC. The team completes the regular season April 16 at home against Lake Sumter CC.

All home games are at Carpenter Complex in Clearwater and begin at 7 p.m.

The state tournament is May 4 to 8 at Winter Haven.

The SPC softball team traveled south over the weekend and split four games. The Titans lost to Miami Dade College twice, 6-3 and 3-2 and whipped Broward CC 11-2 and 11-0. Their record is 12-2 in the conference and 38-13 overall.

Eight crucial Suncoast Conference games in the next 12 days will determine the conference race. SPC is a game behind Manatee, which is 14-2.

The regular season ends at home against Polk CC April 17.
