Auxiliary Flotilla 11-3 MADEIRA BEACH – The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-3 offers monthly safe boating classes through the end of the year at its headquarters at 299 Boca Ciega Drive. Classes meet the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. The next class meets Saturday, May 3. Others classes are planned June 5 and July 5.
The classes are open to the public and recommended for anyone who owns a boat, a personal watercraft, anyone interested in purchasing a boat or anyone who wants to learn safe boating practices. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988 must take a boating safety course and have a valid boating certificate and a photo ID while operating a vessel. Coast Guard Auxiliary Dunedin Flotilla DUNEDIN – Summer recreational boating season is approaching and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Dunedin Flotilla is gearing up with a “Boating Skills & Seamanship” class. The course will be taught in five sessions, May 5, 7, 10, 12 and 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends and 7-9 p.m. weekdays. Classes are held at the Coast Guard Auxiliary classroom at Dunedin Marina, 51 Main St., second floor.
The course covers in-depth topics such as boating emergencies, know your boat, getting underway, navigating the waterways, operating your boat safely, legal requirements, weather, lines and knots, boat handling, radio communications and more. It is designed for both experienced and novice boaters.
Register by May 1 to receive course materials prior to the class. The fee is $50, with a $5 discount each for two or more signing up at the same time. Florida Boater Safety Certification Cards are given to individuals who successfully complete the course.
USCG Auxiliary Training Center GULFPORT – The All About Public Boating Safety Class will be presented Saturday, May 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the USCG Auxiliary Training Center, 3120 Miriam St. S. Cost is $40 per student. The student keeps all books and handout materials. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate, a wallet card and a “bobber card” from the state of Florida.
