CLEARWATER – Moccasin Lake Nature Park has recently eliminated its general admission fee, and several park renovations are being completed in May. More renovations are scheduled for next year, and a potential grant could bring even more improvements to the park.
The public is also invited to celebrate the Eagle Day Festival on Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the park, 2750 Park Trail Lane. This year’s theme is Soaring with the Eagles. Guests will meet Wish, Penelope and the other birds living at the facility and will learn why they cannot be released into the wild. A miniature 3D diagram of a wild bald eagle habitat created by the Clearwater Bonsai Group will be on display along with other environmental exhibits from the Suncoast Herpitological Society, the Clearwater Turtle and Tortoise Society, the Pinellas Native Plant Society, Grow Permaculture, the Suncoast Sierra Club, Clearwater Audubon Society, and Create Clearwater. There will be children’s arts and crafts, musical entertainment, food for purchase, and free beverages. The evening ends with a drum circle and campfire.
The park is currently undergoing a $100,000 renovation that includes a new pier and improvement to the trails, teach meadow and boardwalks. Next year, $400,000 in capital improvement projects will be made to the park, which include renovation of the interpretive center, restrooms, picnic facilities, parking and landscaping.
