Philippe to host nature walks
SAFETY HARBOR – Guided nature walks will be offered Saturdays, May 18 and June 15, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Philippe Park, 2525 Philippe Parkway. The hike is limited to 12 participants. Attendees will learn park history while exploring nature. Participants should meet at the Philippe gravesite at 9 a.m. Closed-toe shoes, water, sunscreen a hat and insect repellant are recommended. Reservations will be accepted through the Friday prior to the hike. An adult must accompany children. To register, call 669-1947 or email dickestes76@yahoo.com.

McGough to host night hikes
LARGO – Night hikes will be presented on the following months on Saturdays, May 18, June 15, July 20 and Aug. 17, 6:30 p.m., at George C. McGough Nature Park, 11901 146th N. St. This will be a free interpretative nature hike through McGough’s habitats. Call 518-3047.

Weedon to host photography hike
ST. PETERSBURG – A wildflower photography hike will be offered Saturday, May 18, 8 to 10 a.m., at Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE. The free event will offer participants the perfect opportunity to hone their skills. After a brief classroom session, highlighting specific wildlife behaviors, guides will assist participants in capturing the natural beauty in photos. Advance registration is required. Weedon to host guided hikes
ST. PETERSBURG – Guided hikes will be offered Saturdays, May 18, 25, 9 to 11 a.m., at Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE. Attendees will learn about the ecosystems and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve while going along on this free guided hike. Participants should bring water and a snack. A hat and closed-toe shoes also are recommended. The hike is best for ages 6 and older. Preregistration is required. Call 453-6500 or visit www.weedonislandpreserve.org.

Forestry hike set
TARPON SPRINGS – A free forestry hike will be offered Friday, May 17, 10 to 11:30 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road. Attendees will join a local natural resources agent and hike along two miles of boardwalks and natural trails at Brooker Creek Preserve. Participants should come prepared with binoculars, cameras and questions. Questions can also be researched in the resource room upon return to the education center. Advance registration is required. Brooker to host guided hikes
TARPON SPRINGS – Guided hikes will be offered Saturdays, May 18, 25, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road. Attendees will take a walk through time on a guided hike. Participants will have an opportunity to look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended. All ages are welcome, although children 5 and younger may find this hike challenging. Preregistration is required. Brooker to host photography hike
TARPON SPRINGS – A free, guided photography hike will be offered Saturday, May 25, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road. In a brief classroom session, local photographers and master naturalists Karl and Kathleen Nichter will highlight the seasonal features that help participants capture the natural beauty of the preserve, then hike the boardwalk and trails looking for those shots that reflect the season. The hike is recommended for adults and children 12 and older. Advance registration is required. Call 453-6800 or visit www.brookercreekpreserve.org.

Fort De Soto to offer guided walks
TIERRA VERDE – Free, guided nature walks will be offered on the following days from 10 to 11 a.m., at Fort De Soto Park, 3500 Pinellas Bayway S.

• Saturday, May 18, a guided walk on the beach trail is planned.

• Sunday, May 19, a guided walk on the soldier’s hole trail is planned.

• Saturday, June 1, a guided walk on the beach trail is planned.

• Sunday, June 2, a guided walk on the arrowhead trail is planned.

• Saturday, June 8, a guided walk on the mangrove trail is planned.

• Sunday, June 9, a guided walk on the soldier’s hole trail is planned.

• Saturday, June 22, a guided walk on the beach trail is planned.

• Sunday, June 23, a bird tour is planned.

• Saturday, June 29, a guided walk on the campground trail is planned.

Guests will enjoy the beauty of Fort De Soto Park with a one-hour nature walk great for the entire family.
