SEMINOLE – The Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast, Sweetbay Supermarket of Seminole and the Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department are hosting a Family Fun Fishing Day on Saturday, Aug. 1, 8 to 11 a.m., at Walsingham Park, 12615 102nd Ave., Largo.
Children age 14 and younger will be schooled in the ways of fishing and encouraged to learn the lifelong leisure activity. Poles and bait will be provided, or anglers can bring their own.
According to Leah Hoffman, past president of the Seminole Breakfast Kiwanis Club, Family Fun Fishing Day is a great opportunity for youth achievement, success and well–being along with having an opportunity to have contact with nature.
To add to the fun, prizes will be awarded for first fish, smallest fish, multiple catches and more. During the morning, children will net education tips from the experts about fishing rules and good practices such as catch and release.
Kiwanis will be offering coffee or juice and a donut for a $1 donation. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of worms for future fishing days.
After the fishing event, spend some time exploring the 354-acre park surrounding Walsingham Lake. Picnic shelters, playgrounds, a dog park, trails and boat launch area make for an entire day of family fun.
