LARGO – The senior division All-Stars team of the Greater Largo Little League went undefeated to claim the championship in the Florida Little League state tournament in Port St. John July 26-27.
The Largo senior team, comprised of ages 13 to 16, allowed only eight runs against the three other teams in their pool: Deerfield Beach, San Mateo and Niceville/Valparaiso. In the championship game July 27, they faced Union Park, also undefeated. Greater Largo won 8-2 and was named the state champions of their age bracket.
They will represent Florida in the Southeast Regional Tournament in Safety Harbor Aug. 1-6, playing teams from Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Largo players’ first game will be against West Virginia Saturday, Aug. 2, 9 a.m., at the Safety Harbor Little League fields at 940 Seventh St. S., Safety Harbor. They will play against Georgia Sunday, Aug. 3, 10:30 a.m., and against North Carolina on Monday, Aug. 4, 4:30 a.m. Semifinals are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 5, and the championship game is Wednesday, Aug. 6.
If the Largo team is successful at the southeast regional level, they will play in the Little League World Series in Bangor, Maine.
