PINELLAS COUNTY - Want a butterfly-friendly environment in the yard? Already have some butterflies in the yard but want to attract more?
Join Pinellas County Master Gardener Adrienne Andrews Wednesday, Aug. 13, to hear more about welcoming these beautiful insects for a free Butterfly Gardening Class.
A butterfly garden is an easy, fun way to see more butterflies and to contribute towards their conservation. Butterfly gardens can be any size – a window box, part of a landscaped yard or even a wild untended area. With a butterfly garden up and blooming, green thumbs can watch the butterflies and their many interesting behaviors. By creating a butterfly garden, a natural habitat is created not only for butterflies but also for birds and other wild animals.
Twice on Wednesday, Aug. 13, Andrews will talk about butterflies, caterpillars and what needs to be done to entice them into the yard. Participants may attend either the 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. session on Aug. 13 at the Crystal Beach Community Hall, 517 Crystal Beach Ave., located in Crystal Beach.
Parking is available in front of the Community Hall and also across the street. The classes are held here while the Palm Harbor Library undergoes renovation.
Admission is free, but space is limited. Interested citizens should call Pinellas County Extension at 727-582-2673 to reserve a seat in either session if you did not sign up during the July gardening class. The Butterfly Gardening Class is part of the 2008 Garden Series.
