Vegetable gardening workshop LARGO – A vegetable gardening workshop will be offered Saturday, Aug. 9, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Pinellas County Extension, 12520 Ulmerton Road. With food prices rising, growing vegetables in the garden may help take some of the bite out of those costs. Successful gardening will be the focus of this free workshop.
The workshop is just in time to prepare for the vegetable growing season in Pinellas County that is from mid-September through mid-May. Now is the time to choose the garden spot or containers, prepare the soil and decide what to plant. To register, call 582-2673.
Orchid Society meeting LARGO – The Florida West Coast Orchid Society will meet on Thursday, Aug. 14, 7:30 p.m., at the Pinellas County Cooperative Extension, Botanical Gardens, 12175 125th St. N. An educational class will be offered at 7 p.m., followed by a short meeting. Featured speakers Jim and Emily Clarkson will then discuss how to ready orchids for the show bench. The event also will include an orchid sale, raffle and refreshments. Call 460-4606.
Florida-Friendly Landscaping Series – Principles Class LARGO - Join in a five-session gardening course that will teach Florida-Friendly landscape design and maintenance principles on Tuesdays, 6:30 to 9 p.m., at Pinellas County Extension, 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Classes continue on the Tuesdays of Aug. 19, Sept. 9 and Sept 23. Take one class or all five. Tuition is $15 per class. Call 727-582-2673 to register.
