ST. PETERSBURG – The city of St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation and the Civitan Club of St. Petersburg will celebrate the 66th annual Fish-A-Thon for youth, teens, and adults on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Lake Jorgenson, behind the St. Petersburg Main Library, on Ninth Avenue between 37th and 39th streets.
This free annual end of summer event will begin with registration at 9 a.m. Official fishing begins at 9:30 a.m. with nine 15-minute fishing intervals. Prizes are awarded throughout the event at each fishing period for youth, teen and adult categories. Everything is provided for the contest including: cane fishing poles and bait. Appropriate foot attire and sunscreen is advised. Personal fishing equipment is not allowed. Closed-toe shoes highly recommended. The event is open to the public.
The Fish-A-Thon honors Dennis Crenshaw, a former high school teacher and advocate for youth outdoor recreation activities.
