SAFETY HARBOR – Local entrepreneur Carl Albritton, owner of the new Wild Birds Unlimited store in the Safety Harbor/Clearwater area, turned a 20-year hobby into a business opportunity.
Albritton’s store opened in mid-August. For two decades, the 56-year-old has nurtured a passion for bird watching which all started in 1987 during a trip to his parent’s house in Belleville, Ill. For 32 years, he worked for AT&T, but when he retired last year, he decided it was the perfect opportunity to open a business and introduce others to a hobby that he cares about dearly.
Wild Birds Unlimited is a franchise system of backyard bird feeding and nature specialty stores. The stores specialize in bringing people and nature together with bird feeding and nature products, expert advice and educational events. The company is expanding in the Tampa area, and the new Clearwater location will feature a new look as the company rebrands their new locations to enhance the customer experience, according to a press release.
Wild Birds Unlimited Clearwater differs from the other franchise locations in that it:
• Will be the southernmost location in North America
• Is built on seven acres of land to enhance the wild life factor and will include bird feeding stations and nesting boxes around the property
• Will feature a new look as the company rebrands their newest locations to enhance the customer experience.
