PeeWee sports class
ST. PETE BEACH – The St. Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, is offering a new sports class for ages 3 to 6. The city’s peewee sports programs are designed to introduce sports to kids. The co-ed classes teach the fundamentals of baseball, soccer, basketball and football. During each session, staff will coach children in games, drills and lots of fun. The programs are designed to keep kids active and moving. Classes Thursdays 6 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is 20. Water carnival
ST. PETE BEACH – The city of St. Pete Beach is offering Splish, Splat, Splash Water Carnival at the Community Center pool Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Ages 10 and under are invited to participate. Cost is $3. There will be both water- and land-based games for children to play, prizes and a treasure hunt. After the carnival, kids can spend the rest of the day in the pool until 3 p.m.

Youth basketball league
BELLEAIR – The Belleair Parks and Recreation Department is offering a fall youth basketball league for ages 5 to 17. This recreational league is designed to teach and enhance basketball knowledge and skills in a fun atmosphere. Games are played on Saturdays and practices are held once a week for an hour. Evaluations will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7. The 10-week season will start on Monday, Sept. 16, and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 16. League fee for members is $75 and $90 for nonmembers. Youth flag football
BELLEAR – The Belleair Parks and Recreation Department is offering a fall youth flag football league for ages 5 to 13. This recreational league is designed to teach and enhance football knowledge and skills in a fun atmosphere. Games are played on Wednesdays. Evaluations will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The eight-week season will start on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and conclude on Wednesday, Nov. 6. League fee for members is $70 and $85 for nonmembers. This flag football league has been a success in the past, and we look forward to another exciting season. Coaches are needed. Family Fun Day
ST. PETE BEACH – The city Recreation Department plans Family Fun Day Sunday, Sept. 22, noon to 3 p.m., at the Aquatic Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive. Admission to the pool is $2 for youth and seniors and $3 for adults. The day will include music, pool bingo, pool basketball, prizes and more. For more information, call 363-9264.

5K and half-marathon training
LARGO – Highland Recreation Center, at 400 Highland Ave., is hosting running training programs to help residents prepare for the Tampa Bay Times Annual Turkey Trot 5K or the Women’s Running Half-Marathon. The training will equip participants with group runs, tips on proper stretching and training plans to take home and follow for the remainder of each week. Classes are open to runners ages 16 and older. A city of Largo recreation card is required.

Training for the women’s half-marathon meets Sept. 3 through Nov. 23 on Tuesdays, 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. The half-marathon race will be held Sunday, Nov. 24. The cost is $99 for residents and $123.75 for nonresidents.

Train for the Turkey Trot class meets Oct. 2 though Nov. 27 on Wednesdays, 6 p.m. The class will conclude with the race held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. The cost is $50 for residents and $62.50 for nonresidents. For more information, visit HighlandRecreation.com or call 518-3016.

Aqua Zumba classes
SEMINOLE – Aqua Zumba classes are held weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 to 10 a.m., at the Holland G. Mangum Recreation Complex Aquatic Center, 9100 113th St. N. Aqua Zumba is a Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, low-impact water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body toning and calorie burning.
Those interested in taking the class do not need to be members of the rec center.
Cost for a drop-in class is $7 for members and $10.50 for nonmembers. A 10-visit punch pass is $65 and comes with one free class; a 20-visit punch pass is $120 and comes with two free classes.

Weight loss group
LARGO – Highland Recreation Complex will host a weight loss group starting Monday, Sept. 9, 6 p.m., at 400 Highland Ave. Damiane Handa, certified health coach from The Balance Branch, leads this program, designed to help participants lose pounds and keep them off without dieting through group and individual support. The cost is $30 a month for residents and $37.50 nonresidents. All materials and giveaways are included in the cost of the program. Call 518-3016.

Monster Mash Zumba Bash
LARGO – Join the Monster Mash Zumba Bash Saturday, Oct. 19, 6 to 8 p.m., at Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave. The event includes raffle prizes, healthy snacks, home goods and beauty vendors. Cost is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. On-site childcare will be available for $5 for potty-trained children, 3 to 10 years old. Call 518-3016.

Boot camps
LARGO – Tone muscles, build core strength, lose weight and increase overall fitness through weekly boot camps with certified instructors at Largo’s Highland Recreation Complex and Largo Central Park. Beginners are welcome to try out the cardio-focused exercises and drills. Join instructor Kevin Scibbe for boot camp at the park on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:15 a.m., 101 Central Park Drive. Boot Camp with Instructor Darrell Philip is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., at the Highland complex.
