Bay Bouquet Garden Club of Dunedin DUNEDIN – The Bay Bouquet Garden Club of Dunedin will kick off its new season with a Design a Mini-garden program on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m., at Dunedin Library, 223 Douglas Ave.
Also, there will be a tree planting ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m., at the Dunedin Cemetery. Call Julie at 734-2058.
Florida West Coast Orchid Society LARGO – The Florida West Coast Orchid Society will meet on Thursday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Pinellas County Cooperative Extension, Botanical Gardens, 12175 125th St. N. An educational class with Ken Roberts on selecting plants for judging will be held at 7 p.m., with a short meeting at 7:30 followed by the featured speaker, Rafael Romero on orchids of Venezuela. There also will be an orchid sale, raffle and refreshments. Visitors are welcome. Free admission and parking. Call 725-1719.
Native Plant Society landscape tour PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas Chapter Florida Native Plant Society will host a landscape tour on Saturday, Sept. 8, 8 a.m. to noon, along two tour loops in Pinellas County.
The south county loop will begin at 5001 10th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, and will include seven residential yards in St. Petersburg. The north county loop will begin at 3082 Huron Ave., Oldsmar, and will feature six sites in Oldsmar, East Lake, Dunedin and Clearwater. A map and list of properties will be provided upon registration.
Participants will see what is possible when conventionally landscaped yards are transformed into native plant spaces that are environmentally and wildlife friendly. These yards have reduced or zero lawn areas, using less water, fertilizer and pesticides. They also provide a wonderful habitat for birds, butterflies, pollinating insects and other critters. Garden Explorer Discovery Tour LARGO - Take a free, self-guided Garden Explorer Discovery Tour Monday through Friday in September from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Florida Botanical Gardens, 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Make the tour even more fun with a Discovery Backpack available for checkout from the Welcome Center. The backpack is loaded with I-spy sheets featuring art, flowers, insects and birds that may be found throughout the Gardens. A pair of binoculars and a map with interesting facts about plants are included. With more than 30 acres of cultivated gardens to explore, plan about two hours for this fun adventure. Greening Your Home ST. PETERSBURG - Bring A brown-bag lunch and hear the latest and easiest ways to “green” your home with Bert Henderson from Pinellas County Extension on Saturday, Sept. 8, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive N.E., St. Petersburg. Learn about easy ways to become earth-friendly around the home and help the planet too. A free goodie bag full of environmental products, including an organic snack, given to all participants. World Rivers Day Fest TARPON SPRINGS - Celebrate the third international World Rivers Day with a Fest to highlight the many values of Brooker Creek Preserve’s waterways on Saturday, Sept. 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs. The Fest immerses visitors in area waterways and offers practical ideas and materials to make a difference at home and in the community.
