Article published on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007
PINELLAS COUNTY – The St. Petersburg College volleyball team, defending champion of the Suncoast Conference, begins conference play Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Manatee Community College.

The team has been playing in tournaments and non-conference matches in preparation for the portion of the season that will determine who goes to the state tournament Nov. 1-3 in Winter Haven.

The team begins its home schedule Tuesday, Sept. 18, when always-tough Pasco-Hernando CC visits for a 7 p.m. match.

“With our returning all-conference setter Kelli Johnson and all-state middle Heloisa dos Santos, the team is poised to continue our winning ways,” Head Coach Scott White said.

This is White’s fifth year directing the program. Last year the team was ranked among the top 20 in the country and finished fourth in the state tournament.

The team is 3-0 after defeating St. Johns River CC, Indian River CC, and Manatee CC.

All home matches are played at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus, 6605 Fifth Ave. N. and are free to the public.
