Tennis Tournament benefits Humane Society of Pinellas

CLEARWATER - The 14th Annual Tennis Tournament in memory of Shannon Morton is set for Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 26-30, at Royal Racquet Club in Clearwater.

The event will kick off on Wednesday with the pre-tournament Warm-up Party, with dinner provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, guests are welcome for $15 per person.

Junior Fun Night is Friday, 6 to 8:30, for kids ages 4-18. The event, sponsored by Knology, includes a tennis carnival plus tennis racquet and skill games and more. Prizes will be awarded and no tennis experience is required to participate. Junior Fun Night is free and pizza will be served. Registration is required.

The tournament format is women’s, men’s and mixed doubles – Levels: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and Open (5.0 and above). Play will be two sets with third set match tiebreaker (10 point) for both main draw and consolation. Finals will be best two of three sets for both main draw and consolation rounds.

Other activities include a raffle drawing, door prizes, silent auction, goodie bags, awards, tournament T-shirts and tennis towels, plus complimentary refreshments on all days of play.

Adult play will run from Friday through Sunday. Entry fees are $45 a person for one event and $65 a person for two events.

Registration forms are available at the Humane Society of Pinellas and also at most tennis facilities in Pinellas County. To register by phone either to play in the tournament or for Junior Fun Night or for sponsorship information, call Royal Racquet at 727-291-8415 or 727-799-3200.
