Ultramarathon man to run ‘Halfathon’ twice
Article published on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006
MADEIRA BEACH – The Florida Gulf Beaches Holiday Halfathon on Saturday, Oct. 28, will feature celebrity athlete and author Dean Karnazes with The North Face Endurance 50. He will run the course twice as marathon No. 42.

Karnazes is attempting to run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days, a celebration of endurance and of the athletes who push preconceived notions of what is possible.

Karnazes’ goal is to invite Americans to achieve their own personal best, whether completing their first marathon or logging their 20th. He is being coached by Carmichael Training Systems for this expedition. Karnazes started the first marathon on Sept. 17 at The Lewis and Clark Marathon in St. Charles, Mo.

“The mission of The North Face Endurance 50 is to encourage, motivate and inspire people of all ages to become active, make physical wellness an essential and enjoyable priority in their lives, and promote healthy, active living across the country,” said Karnazes, “all while reinforcing the aspect and idea of endurance running and the strength and stamina that go into this sport.”

At the finish line there will be an opportunity to meet Karnazes and experience The North Face endurance-inspired collection and the other top products.

The fifth annual Florida Gulf Beaches Holiday Halfathon is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10. The course tours through exclusive beach communities and through public parks, showcasing the Florida coastal lifestyle. This race provides a great opportunity for runners training for winter marathons and for those runners seeking a last distance race before year’s end.
