Walkers get ready to raise money for cancer research

PINELLAS COUNTY – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Runners and walkers throughout Tampa Bay will participate in the Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure on Oct. 7 and the Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk on Oct. 13-15.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, runners from throughout the area will meet at Vinoy Park to participate in the Florida Suncoast Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer’s eighth annual Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure.
One of the participants is Laura Price, certified Jazzercise instructor and personal trainer who offers classes at the Dimmitt Community Center in Belleair. She joins other Pinellas and Hillsborough counties Jazzercise franchise owners in a team in the race, and the local Jazzercise instructor team who will be leading the warm-ups before the race begins.
Events and late registration begin at 6 a.m. at Vinoy Park. The race begins at 8 a.m., followed by a celebration of life with hundreds of breast cancer survivors following the race.
With more than 2,200 women in the Florida Suncoast diagnosed each year, breast cancer touches nearly every woman. To fight the disease, the Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure is an event for all ages and fitness levels. A competitive 5K race and a 5K walk along the beautiful waterfront and through historic Northeast St. Petersburg as well as a 1-mile Fun Run/Walk allow for all ages and fitness levels to participate.
Even the kids can participate in the Kids for the Cure race for children aged 10 and younger and other children’s events.

The Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk will begin with opening ceremonies at Sand Key Park Friday, Oct. 13, 7:30 a.m. and conclude with closing ceremonies at Spa Beach Park in St. Petersburg on Sunday, Oct. 15, 5:30 p.m.
