CLEARWATER – The Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 will take to the streets on Saturday, Nov. 11, 7 a.m., beginning at Clearwater Beach. Pro start will be 6:45 a.m.
Thousands of spectators and volunteers are expected to come and watch the 1,800 domestic and international athletes who have competed for an opportunity to take part in this championship event.
The 1.2 mile swim, the 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run will take the tri-athletes throughout Clearwater and neighboring cities.
Swimmers will begin from the beach and return alongside Pier 60, into the parking lot where the athletes bike over the Cross Memorial Causeway to ride to Park Boulevard, then north on 49th Street, crossing the Bayside Bridge. Riders will cross the bay and return along the Courtney Campbell Causeway to Enterprise Road, then head west to Belcher Road and south to Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard before resuming a westward tack and eventually crossing the causeway back to the beach.
Runners leave the beach, cross the causeway to go to the Pinellas Trail, then to Belleview Boulevard, onto Druid Road, to Bay Avenue, to Turner Street, to Oak Avenue and back across the causeway to begin the second lap, eventually coming to the finish line at the Pier 60 parking lot.
