BELLEAIR – The town of Belleair has recently approved the addition of a cycling event to the Belleair Classic 5K/10K Road Race March 6, 2010.
The first annual Brick-4-Breakfast will provide an opportunity for many of Tampa Bay’s athletes who will be training for St. Anthony’s Triathlon, which is seven weeks later in April. The Brick’s addition was the brainchild of Executive Race Director Patti Spence, a local USAT coach who felt that the existing 5K/10K race did not offer enough to draw local triathletes who are in search of peak training opportunities as they prepare for the upcoming spring triathlon season.
“Our goal is to create an event that entertains all levels of athletes, from the hard core, competitive multisport athlete, to the individual who prefers to enjoy walking our beautiful course,” said Spence. “We do not want to lose sight of the fact that this is a family event that supports our local recreation programs, so we are working on a number of different features that will keep the young children and local families involved. Our goal is to inspire them to maintain a health and fitness regimen throughout their lives.”
In addition, the community is invited to the Health and Fitness Expo at the Dimmitt Community Center Thursday and Friday, March 4 and 5, 4 to 7 p.m. The Dimmitt Community Center also will host a post race breakfast race morning.
Vendors with sports-related gear, nutritional products, health clubs, personal trainers and local businesses will be on site during the pre-race packet pickup.
