PINELLAS PARK – Pinellas Park Pony Baseball registration will take place every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. through Feb. 1. at the Davis Field office, 6050 Railroad Ave., by Field 2.
This upcoming season represents a fresh start for PPPB, said Chuck Levesque, new president of the board. A brand new board was recently elected, as many of the previous board members “aged out” as their children got older. The club’s numbers had also slumped a bit in recent years, he wrote in an email, and the hope is new board members will help to rejuvenate the organization.
“We have a whole new executive board,” he said in an interview. “A lot of us are parents with younger kids, so we’re looking to be here for a while.”
The new board members – vice president Justin Taylor, secretary Nancy Wright and treasurer Tara Berringer, in addition to Levesque – have all been involved with the organization for the past two to three years.
“So we’ve seen a few areas where some changes could be made,” Levesque said. “We’re looking forward to making it exciting for the kids.”
He said the board will focus on distributing the talent among teams evenly, “so everyone gets a fair shot.”
Registration is $50 per player for the Pre-Tee Division (3- and 4-year-olds); $75 per player for the Shetland (5- and 6-year-olds) Division; and $100 per player for the Pinto (7- and 8-year-olds), Mustang (9- and 10-year-olds), Bronco (11- and 12-year-olds) and Pony (13- and 14-year-olds) Divisions.
The organization also offers 8U, 10U, 12U and 16U softball.
