PINELLAS COUNTY – Beth Lockwood, executive director of the SPCA Tampa Bay, has been appointed by the Humane Society of the United States to the Companion Animals Advisory Council.
Lockwood is one of 13 animal shelter executives in the U.S. appointed to serve on the council. Members share ideas and help develop plans and programs to make sheltering better for the people who run the country’s more than 3,500 animal shelters, as well as for the millions of homeless animals in their care. Members make recommendations on companion animal topics such as feral cats, shelter adoption policies, disaster preparedness, and transfer of animals from state to state.
“Beth sets a high standard for other shelter executives to follow. Her insight, innovation, and desire to generate community involvement in animal sheltering issues made her an obvious choice for this appointment,” said Laura Bevan, southeast regional director of HSUS.
Lockwood has been working on behalf of the animals at the SPCA Tampa Bay for more than 25 years.
