Celebrate National Pet Week in May

PINELLAS COUNTY - National Pet Week is observed the first full week in May, and Pinellas County Animal Services celebrates by offering reduced adoption costs for pets.

As part of the celebration, $1 rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a license will be available for dogs and cats. A three-year license is $10.

The adoption fee in May for cats and dogs has been reduced to $20. That fee includes a medical work-up, spaying or neutering, vaccination series, internal and external parasite control, heartworm testing and feline leukemia testing. A required Pinellas County license is provided too.

The families that adopted 5,496 pets last year from Animal Services know the many advantages of welcoming a pet from a shelter. Most shelters are packed with happy, healthy animals just waiting for someone to take them home. Along with medical care, animals are screened for temperaments and behaviors to help families find the best pet.

Also, especially during these economically challenging times, adopting a pet from a shelter is much less expensive than through other sources. And, last but certainly not least, pets have a way of putting a smile on a human’s face. They have been shown to benefit the mind, heart and body of anyone who gives wagging-tailed dogs and purring cats a chance at a better live.

To come face-to-face with adoptable pets, stop by Animal Services at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Hours and days of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information about services and adoptions, visit www.pinellascounty.org/animalservices or call 727-582-2600.
