Congratulations to Luca, Tampa Bay Newspapers May pet photo of the month winner.
Luca is a 6-year-old Chihuahua who lives with his parents, Sophia Renee and Michael Leishman in Indian Rocks Beach.
They have raised Luca since he was small enough to fit in a coffee cup. Even full-grown, he only weighs 4 pounds and was the runt of the litter, but don’t tell him that.
He grew up with two pit bull siblings, Willis and Lola, and always thought he was far tougher than them. And at least as big.
He loves sunbathing, burrowing in blankets and warm crevices, and has endearing obsessive habits. But what his mom loves most about him is that even though he is all grown up, he still looks and behaves like a puppy.
For better or for worse, he’s still very dependent on his mom’s presence and is the happiest when he’s with her. He is never far from her lap and she loves and takes comfort in this constant affection from her best friend.
Her favorite quality about Luca is his personality and how he seems to feel about her.
“I’ve had dogs my whole life but never a dog that looked at me with such intensity and relied on me so much,” she said. “I truly feel the enormous love he has for me and the comfort he takes from having me close.”
As pet of the month winner, Luca and his family won a $25 gift certificate to either Largo Feed or Park Feed in Pinellas Park.
