PINELLAS COUNTY - The dog days of summer are upon us, and while we're out having fun in the sun, it's very important that pet owners protect their pets from the intense Florida heat.
The SPCA of Pinellas County offers the following hot weather tips:
- Never leave your pet alone in a vehicle. - Walk your dog in the morning and evening when it is cooler. - Never leave your dog standing on hot asphalt. - Keep cats indoors. - Provide your pet with fresh, cool water everyday. - Shave a heavy-coated dog's hair to a one-inch length. - Brush cats often. - Check your pets for fleas and ticks, which are more common in the summer months.
