LARGO – Pinellas County Animal Services will offer reduced adoption fees of $25 for large dogs and $40 for puppies and small breeds during normal shelter adoption hours in August.
The low cost adoption fee includes medical checkup, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, heartworm tests, feline leukemia testing and microchipping. Also, as part of the celebration, $5 rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a required license will be available for pets during vaccine clinic hours.
To kick the month off, on Saturday, Aug. 2 only, the adoption fee for large dogs will be $7 as the dogs go to the beach. Paddling pools will be on site for the adoption dogs to enjoy and digital pictures will be taken for new adoptees to purchase for a small donation to the Animal Welfare Trust Fund, which supports other animals in need. Hot dogs, chips and soda also will be sold for a $1 donation during the event.
Pinellas County Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are administered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 2:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The facility is closed all Pinellas County holidays.
