The Humane Society of Pinellas recently unveiled iPet Companion, a robotic cat toy that allows people to play with adoptable cats over the Internet.
HSP is the only shelter in Florida to install the iPet Companion.
“We are so excited by this toy,” said Sarah Brown, HSP executive director, in a press release. “Not only can people all over the world see what great cats we have for adoption, but they are getting lots of enrichment and exercise. And honestly, who doesn’t love playing with kittens?”
The HSP hopes the toy will lead to an increase in adoptions. After the Oregon Humane Society installed the iPet Companion, their cat adoptions increased 16 percent.
The price of iPet Companion system is typically about $9,200. Kong and iPet Companion donated the system in use at HSP in full.
