Editor: I suspect most who have visited or passed through John’s Pass in the last few weeks must be appalled, as I am, at the sight of the malevolent mausoleum that has risen as the new cornerstone of the village.
As if the gaudy creations that have been built in the last few years were not bad enough, we must now endure Hubbards’ folly as our new landmark. If there was ever a hope of retaining the fishing village characteristics which were the premise for re-building the area, at great cost, those laudable aspirations have been dashed forever.
To those who don’t understand how this could have happened, I admonish you to take note of the fact this is precisely what happens when you give the keys to the hen house to the fox. Today, with the changing of the guard at city hall resulting in the replacing of the board of adjustment with a master system, things of this nature should no longer happen. Never, that is, unless the electorate again falls asleep. How unfortunate the remedy came too late for John’s Pass.
