Editor: It was with great regret that I read the article “Bluff’s’ hopes high for fire station” in the Feb. 27 Belleair Bee. I thought this issue was long dead.
How can anyone who went through the debacle of the Bluffs firefighter pension payout battle, which cost Bluffs’ taxpayers and the town plenty, have the audacity to propose a $3 million fire station when the current arrangement is working just fine.
The thing that is most irritating about this proposal is that the people living adjacent to the site have not been considered. Placing a fire station in the midst of an inherently residential neighborhood makes no sense to me or anyone I have spoken to. Perhaps it would be wise to call a meeting of area residents to see how they feel about the constant noise of sirens at very close range and the plummeting property values this will cause. I’d be willing to bet that no one who is proposing this facility lives within hearing range. It would be wise to see what the people who will be most affected by this proposal think before jumping the gun on this one.
