Legal immigrants welcome, not illegal aliens

Re: Group calls for driver’s licenses for everyone, June 13
This is in response to the article on people requesting that “undocumented immigrants” be able to receive a driver’s license.

I have no problem with immigrants having a license; they are here legally. An “undocumented immigrant” is another word for an illegal alien, and I do have a problem with them having a license. First of all, they are not here legally – so why should they have paperwork that would recognize them as such?

Our streets will not be safer because they have a license; many people who have legal licensure are bad drivers. The fact that an illegal alien is worried about being deported if pulled over while driving illegally is not a reason to give them a license. My 26-year-old son was killed by a drunk-driving illegal alien. He had been arrested 23 times and never deported. I guess the authorities didn’t want to do the paperwork either. Most of his prior arrests were for assault and battery but one was for giving a false driver’s license to a police officer. Yes, you guessed it. He then continued to drive and, because he wasn’t deported, he went out and got drunk and proceeded to hit my son’s car, a VW Jetta, at 90 mph with his friend’s F150 pickup truck (another illegal alien). Obviously they were not insured, not that it would bring my son back. If you begin by breaking the law you will continue to do so.

We might also consider that the next move would be to allow them to vote in our elections because they now have a legal ID, a driver’s license, and an address. One thing will lead to another and the state of Florida will now have a huge mess at the polls.

If you wish to live in the United States you are always welcome but come here as a legal immigrant, not an illegal alien. It needs to be done the proper way. I personally am very tired of changing rules and lowering our standards so that others will be happy. The tail has to stop wagging the dog. The law is the law; begin as you wish to continue. If you start out on the correct foot then you will have your proper documentation and there will be no problem. There is no such thing as an “undocumented immigrant. “ You are either an immigrant or an illegal alien, without documentation. Hence, no driver’s license.
