Editor: Thanks to Tiffany Razzano and the Seminole Beacon for the interesting and illuminating article “Investigation underway.” It is refreshing when the free press brings light to such matters as this. Instead of feeding us the usual company line as so many lesser reporters are inclined to do. Our free press was conceived with the notion that it be ever vigilant of government and expose these scandals.
This administration has had more than its share of scandals. It is said that most members of the City Council are puppets for the administration. Mere bobble-heads that simply advance the agenda given to them. Rarely oppose any agenda item and vigorously defend the status quo. My friends we as citizens seek an honest and open local government, but the question is are we getting what we paid for. Historically folks step down during a scandal for good reason. We are told this city manager will do so soon. Why now? With the city in poor shape given the demise of our local mall, and a proposed new park project in disarray. He should take this mayor, Leslie Waters, and Bob Matthews with him. Matthews is the longest sitting councilor, who hired this manager, and supporter of the status quo.
So, many thanks to Councilor Plantamura and Clerk Benoit for bringing this matter to light. This November as seats come up for election, let us bring in some new folks, with fresh minds and new ideas, and let us move our city forward. And move away from the status quo, which has been the case for way too long now.
