Editor: Failed attempts to beautify the road medians on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard have raised a lot of eyebrows around Clearwater. The recently re-landscaped medians look even worse than the old ones did but, more to the point, why did they need to be replaced? And who do we need to thank for such a dismal and unimaginative piece of work and waste of money?
The city of Clearwater could learn something from Largoís road medians landscaping on East Bay Drive. For one thing, they do not use any drab, dull or messy bark mulch, instead they use flowering yellow ground cover. They also make good use of low maintenance blue liriope and other colorful shrubs such as Cuban gold duranta, plumbago and firecracker plants. The difference is very striking and obvious; it shows how well chosen plants and creatively landscaped medians can make a difference. The Clearwater Beach Causeway is another fine example of good landscaping. A trip to Sunken Gardens would have been more enlightening.
