Editor: I could not attend the Aug. 12, 2014, council meeting due to a work-related out-of-state trip.
I appreciate the good work which Manager Edmunds has done for our city and with him I have always comported myself with respect. Edmunds’ leadership includes the responsibility to answer taxpayers’ questions. The problem lies with his unwillingness to provide answers to serious questions. His choice is contrary to open and transparent government.
Public requests for information require answers. Every taxpayer should be alarmed when their City Council actually passes a motion, July 8, 2014, which allows the city Manager to avoid questions. This gives carte blanche to our manager to dodge any questions which he claims “not in the best interest and/or necessary and/or beneficial to the city.”
Negative attention has been drawn to our city because of this lack of accountability. This has prompted a groundswell of community members contacting me to persist in getting my questions answered and also their asking of new questions.
As Edmunds continues his job in Seminole, I will continue mine. If no answers are forthcoming, I have no choice but to seek answers through legal means. I respect the office of city manager, but we all need to respect and abide by the laws, which provide the charter for our city.
