Editor: I am writing to you as the current operator of the Old Snack Shack as I feel there is important information our local citizens need to know regarding the City Commission and current City Manager, Shane Crawford.
First of all, my husband and I have been operating the Snack Shack since September 2010 and since that time, not once has the City Commission or city manager contacted us regarding any concerns about the management of the Snack Shack. We were stunned last week by the City’s arbitrary decision to put the Snack Shack and cabana concession up for bid.
Last week, upon hearing about the workshop meeting, we left phone messages with the City Manager who failed to return any of our calls but on September 3, emailed us a brief response, “the city has chosen to rebid the project as the premise will be much different than when it was bid. The contract allows for a 90-day notice of termination. The BOC has chosen to exercise that clause.” Yet, at the City Commission workshop meeting Crawford said he did not expect new managers to make significant changes to the Snack Shack. He states “The Snack Shack will be the Snack Shack.” Yet he tells us the premise will be much different than when it was bid? So what is it?
We have spent thousands of dollars, time and energy on the Snack Shack and have heard the City’s empty promises of improvements for the Snack Shack for the past three years. They have done nothing. They have said nothing. In fact, at the workshop meeting, the majority of the Commission had nothing to say except for Commissioners, Terry Lister and Elaine Poe.
Commissioner Poe used to love the Snack Shack so I can’t understand why she doesn’t like it now. Elaine Poe states she would like to see “a higher class than what we are seeing over there.” She says “we have not had the quality over there we would like to see.”
Yet, the citizens of Madeira Beach were good enough for her during her campaign party which she held at the Snack Shack. At that time she was looking for everyone’s vote whether she considered them people of poor quality and low class or not. We are dismayed at the disloyalty of our now former Snack Shack staff, disgusted with the city manager, and appalled by the brazen arbitrary decision making by the City Commission of Madeira Beach.
