Editor Public safety is critical and the first mission of any elected representative of the people. In the most densely populated county in all of Florida, the county commission must realize that waterfront property will be inundated by a hurricane up to 30 feet deep in some areas at some time in the future.
There is no doubt that it will happen and nothing can stop it. Now is the time to stop the development of waterfront areas for residential use and take responsibility for the safety of the people. It may be hard to resist the temptation of increasing tax revenue and a greater population but safety must take priority. The Tides must stay undeveloped. Both the people of Pinellas and the city of Seminole must fight to keep it. Adding the property to Boca Ciega Millennium Park is the best and only option for the county to plan responsibly for the future.
