PINELLAS COUNTY – A Georgia woman who was crossing Ulmerton Road on Jan. 13 lost her leg when a motorist struck her and another woman and left the scene without stopping.
Elonda Floyd, 41, and Lisa King, 46, both of Columbus, Ga., were crossing the road near 38th Street in an unincorporated area when a car hit them and left the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the women were treated at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Floyd lost her leg, suffered other injuries and remains hospitalized. King suffered minor injuries and was released.
Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the accident. Edmar B. Cassiano, of Clearwater, who lives in the 2700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard has been charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury. As of Wednesday he remained in the Pinellas County Jail on $10,000 bond.
