TAMPA - 3 Players Sports Group Inc. President Patrick J. Schaefer announced Feb. 23 that the final cutoff date for applicants to submit contestant applications for the new Reality Television program, Racer, is March 27.
Racer, a new reality television show, combines two of the most popular on-air entertainment concepts – auto racing and reality television – to create an unmatched, action-packed eight-week TV series scheduled to air the second quarter of 2009.
The winner of Racer will receive national exposure, a cash award and a championship trophy.
According to Schaefer, “We have received a significant number of contestant applications, however we recently learned that due to problems with the online registration section of our Web site, many who attempted to register found it impossible to complete the process. Adjustments to the Web site that will correct the online registration problems are being made at this time, and we want everyone who desires to participate in the show to have the opportunity. As such, we have extended the application date to March 27, 2009. This will in no way affect the production and distribution schedule of Racer.”
Racer provides the opportunity for local amateur “fans in the stands” and those who race for fun on weekends to receive national recognition for their efforts and possibly be ‘discovered’ by a professional racing team, Schaefer said.
“The Tampa Bay area is heavily populated by race fans, which is why we decided to base and produce Racer here,” he said.
To be eligible as a contestant, male and female applicants must be licensed drivers 18 years of age or older and not have driven as a professional race car driver. The contestants will be judged on a point system with each weekly show having one winner and becoming a semi-finalist. The final show of the series will feature the winners from each previous program, who will race to determine the grand prize winner of Racer.
