OLDSMAR - Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies responded to a three vehicle crash involving a school bus about 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, on Curlew Road, just west of Gull Aire Boulevard in Oldsmar.
According to deputies, the school bus was traveling westbound on Curlew Road just west of Gull Aire Boulevard when it stopped in the center lane for another school bus that was stopped picking up children.
A 2000 Toyota Celica driven by Subatha Suthakaran, 18, of Oldsmar, traveling just behind the bus also came to a stop. A third vehicle, a 2003 Saturn Ion driven by Courtney Fenton, 17, of Dunedin however did not stop and rear-ended the Toyota Celica pushing it partially underneath the school bus, the police report said.
Suthakaran had to be extricated from the Toyota. Suthakaran, her passenger, Rachelle Carnes, 17, of Oldsmar, and Fenton were transported to Mease Countryside Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The bus driver, Daron Denice Green, 47, of Largo, five children between the ages of 9 and 17, and two assistants aboard the school bus were not injured in the crash. They were picked up by another bus and continued on to the Calvin Hunzinger School.
